Description:

Families who invaded land in Ventanilla were helped to avoid evictions and eventually obtain public housing subsidies. The communities were organized and leaders mobilized to fight for land security and basic services. Coordination with municipalities made possible to prepare and approve technical dossiers, legalize land ownership and extend basic services to some areas. Moray was in charge of technical assistance and training. Slum dwellers learned to understand technical drawings and specifications and now are empowered to discuss with authorities about these issues. They also were trained to build and repair their houses. As a result of the implementation of this project 1303 families now legally own their land, permission to use 337 has for housing is granted, will be used for housing, 1303 dossiers are completed so families can demand services, and 495 families already have access to potable water and sewage.
