UPASSO provides basic shelter to women who suffer from permanent harassment and sexual violence by armed groups, so they can live on their own, have some privacy and begin a normal life. 21 units (1 more than planned) were built for women- headed families with an average of 5 children. The community established a selection system and helped to prepare the land for construction. They also collected sand and stones to build the foundations. 126 persons were benefitted, and now can integrate into local society, accessing educational, health and social services that are now available for them. UPASSO will continue searching for funds to address the acute housing problems of women in this region, by showing that it is possible to alleviate these needs with simple projects such as this one. It is expected that local authorities will co-finance and multiply the building of these basic units in the near future. Contact: Mme. MWAVITA KALUBALA upasso2@yahoo.fr
